First Gen Latina Sabbatical Travels #4.5

This blog/substack started as a space to develop my writing voice and dabble in topics that matter to me personally without waiting for approval. Or being afraid to make mistakes. I want it to stay that way.

But I haven’t posted the final installment of my First Gen Latina Sabbatical Travels Series because I can’t bring myself to write it.

I love travel. It’s had an undeniable impact on my personal development but I’ve never wanted to be a travel blogger in a true sense. Writing about this sabbatical experience has been freeing and allowed me to reflect with intention, but it was never supposed to box me in. That’s what it’s felt like. Especially after the previous 2 articles.

For me, travel is about joy and freedom and introspection. It’s one thing to embed those experiences into my articles, and it’s another to have my articles be ABOUT them. This series started to become the latter. I don’t want it to lose its magic so I’m going to write the final article just to finish what I started (not sure when yet).

The last few months of ‘play’ have given me clarity on what I want to write and how I want to write. I’m focused on a fiction manuscript (!) and intend to return to my memoir once I’m read to pitch the novel. (I needed more distance from it.)

You can still expect travel to be a part of my writing because it’s part of my life and intertwined with my identity, but I’m here to break the news that I will not be your go-to travel guru. You’ll have to head to Pinterest for that!
