Storytelling con Marissa is a platform for people trying to own their story in a world that is constantly telling us what our story should be.

Through culture, community, travel, and a dash of philosophical reflection, we explore what it means to be an entire novel, in a world obsessed with the title.

MARISSA REYES is a storyteller, educator, and social justice advocate whose work focuses on creating the conditions for belonging in communities everywhere, through intentional steps.

As a First Generation Mexican-American with a background in comparative literature and political science, and over 15 years of experience as an educator in the US, she writes to explore how identity impacts experience and how trailblazers bare the toll of breaking generational cycles.

The last 6 weeks have been a lot. I try not to fixate on things I can’t change - like being born female in a sexist world. But there are moments when the question creeps in, despite all of my previous success: “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯?” When I sit down to write, I have an idea of where it’s going to go but once the words come, the story writes itself. Today’s article is honest, vulnerable, and deep, providing more context on how I landed on this path. My way isn’t for everyone, but take what’s helpful and run with it 💕 I spent the last 24 hours making my first GF Sourdough loaf 🙌🏽 Reflection builds gratitude. When you carry the dreams of your ancestors on your back, leaving behind all of the mainstream success you’ve build is unthinkable… but how much sacrifice is worth it to continue on that path? I’ve always been ambitious and driven, but what no one tells you is that alone doesn’t lead to results. Missed last week’s announcement? No worries, I gotchu 😉 Most days are good. Really good.
